From Earth we cannot look at the Sun with human eyes. 3d Sun gives audiences the chance to see the sun up close in dazzling, high-definition 3D. Stand above the artic circle and witness the most brillian auroras on Earth. Take a ride on a solar blast from Sun's surface to Earth's Magnetosphere. Witness the most powerful explosions in the solar system - equal to the force of a billion megaton nuclear bombs.

In October, 2006 NASA launched twin spacecraft from a single rocket in Florida - spacecraft that would, for the first time in the history of space exploration, capture space-born, high-definition 3D images of the Sun. In 3D SUN, the leading NASA scientists from the mission unveil these images and take us behind the scenes, to tell the story of the Sun and why it is of crucial importance to all of us.

The most violent explosions in our solar system are happening right now on the Sun. Billion mega-ton blasts shoot out solar prominences that loop into space for thousands of miles. These solar blasts, called CMEs (Coronal Mass Ejections), create radiation that is responsible for the stunning auroras that are the northern and southern lights at the Earth's poles... But they can also have catastrophic consequences for our planet. Massive geomagnetic storms, the driving force behind Space Weather, can risk astronaunt safety, destry satelittes and disable power grides.

The twin STEREO spacecraft will literally provide one eye each on opposite sides of the Earth and offer unparalleled 3D detail of the Sun. Audiences will first experience the 3D rocket launch in seat shaking 5.1 stereo, then witness a 3D animation of the spacecrafts separating and floating through space to their final vantage point and ultimately see and analyze 3D Sun images that only scientists usually get to see. The immersive power and sensory effects of digital 3D technology will dramatically enhance the experience of the audience, making them feel almost as if they're "in the cockpit" of one of the orbiting STEREO spacecraft.
